Staying Organised At Work

Organisation is crucial when we go to work each day. Whether you are at the start of your career or you are a seasoned worker, there are certain things you will need to do in order to keep organised and be able to grow and develop as much as you can in the business world. Here are some of the ways you can stay organised at work and work more efficiently this year.

Make a list

Whether you love making lists or hate it, there is no denying that lists can help us to remember what we are doing and make sure that we can stay on top of our jobs. Every morning when you get out work make a list of everything you want to achieve in a day and stick it somewhere that you can see it. When you finish each task you can see what’s next and this will make things much easier for you to keep track of during the day.

Tick things off

As well as making a list, make sure that you tick items off the list when you have done them. This helps you to see how many things you have managed to get done during the day and it can stop you getting confused with which jobs you still need to complete. It can also be a form of motivation because being able to tick off a job as done is satisfying and will make you feel as if you are achieving something good. It can make you feel more motivated and allow you to feel better during the working day.

Prioritise

When you are at work and you have a pile as big as your head to do, it can be difficult to know exactly when to start. When looking at tasks and deciding which ones to do first, you need to think of your priorities. Which ones need to be done today? This week? This month? Always do the ones which need to be completed now first, and work on the rest later. It might sound obvious but it’s surprising how much you can forget to prioritise your workload.

Pack your bag

Organisation starts at home, and you should always make sure that you pack up your bag for work the night before you go in. This includes packing up your notes, laptop, pens, cables and cute lanyards with your ID badge in so that you have everything in one place for the morning. When you are rushing around in the morning you are much more likely to run late and forget something, so always pack the night before.

Pre-prepare

Preparation is key to any successful workplace, and you can prepare effectively for your working day by writing out your to do list the night before. In the last 10 minutes of the day, write your list for the next day. This means that when you come to work in the morning you aren’t spending the first 20 minutes figuring out which job to start first.
